Nepal is a small country tucked between the massive shoulders of India and China and offers the wealth of culture and beauty that only the Himalayas can provide. According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Nepal ranks 138 out of 169 countries on the 2010 Human Development Index. This is a combination of life expectancy, literacy, education and living standards.

Even though an estimated 41% of the population are undernourished (World Food Program 2010), the people still offer the most magnificent smiles and guests in this country are warmly welcomed.

It is a country where 54% of the population live below the International Poverty Line of less than $1.25 US per day (WFP 2010) and the literacy rate is only 58% (World Bank 2008). Children are deprived of their basic right to education due to poverty and underdeveloped infrastructure Therefore, there exist socio-economic problems such as child and bonded labor, girl trafficking and discrimination against women and female children.
