The Butterfly Foundation Nepal Childcare Centre Sub-Metro-6 Along with the Foundations other good works, the main aim of the foundation is to raise the basic standards of the lowest, underprivileged class children of Nepal. This is a grass roots need, to help educate, care for and nourish the children of today for their improved future prospects and the overall benefit of Nepal. The Butterfly Foundation Nepal have been running a free childcare centre, helping struggling families to entrust their children into a safe, clean, and educational environment. These children who would otherwise be unable to attend a preschool, through economic depravation, have the opportunity of childcare and education, whilst their parents can search for work, to provide for their families. Without this facility, the children would go uneducated and their parents are unable to leave them to secure an income and stable future for their entire family. The initial Kinder garden was established in 2004, and has recently moved, keeping central to Pokhara, this both decreased the overhead costs and improved the facilities, with the added advantage of a beautiful playground in a quiet residential area. The Butterfly Foundation employs three teachers and a caretaker along with volunteer staff to care for the children, and provides the 30 children with school uniforms and lunch. The cost of running the center is approximately $4,500 per annum, all inclusive. We have been helped by financial donations, material donations, such as books and clothing and by volunteers freely giving their time and love to help the long term future of the children of the Butterfly Childcare Centre. The day starts for the children at 9am, with dancing and singing, which is very important in the Nepalese culture and the children enjoy the good warm up exercise before the day begins. The classroom has the alphabet and numerals painted in both Nepali and English with big pictures, all of which were painted by volunteers, under the guidance of two local artists, who are active supporters of the foundation works. The volunteers, who were staying at the Butterfly Lodge, have left a worldly touch to the pictures and create an easy learning environment for the pupils and a joy for the teachers to use. The toys and books which the children appreciate were donated by an Australian tour group, who return annually and will be able to watch the tree they planted in the playground grow into a strong tree, as from the seeds of well nourished children, so shall strong adults emerge. The sleep room, used for the after lunch nap, is a joy to enter, with flowers, trees and clouds decorating the walls. The children are lucky to have a large quiet playground with grass underfoot. It is enhanced immeasurably by the kindly donated swings and slide which brings smiles from even the most reserved children's faces. Only with the kind and continued support from the friends of the Butterfly Foundation, this dream has become a reality. We would like to thank everyone involved, Rob and Jodie Swales and Hermon from Switzerland who are the main people who have supported The Child care Centre. We also give thanks to Wendy and NAFA and everyone else who has helped to make all this possible. Together with love and compassion we can make the positive difference to their future. Because of our success, the Butterfly Foundation Nepal, have been asked to oversee the rejuvenation of a further sixteen Childcare centres around the district. Many of these are without even the basic facilities of teachers, toilets, running water, flooring or electricity. We at the Foundation wish to see these children enjoy the same basic needs fulfilled as our children of the Butterfly Childcare Centre. We desperately need your help to make this dream a reality. Our long term, achievable goal for all the Childcare centres, is enabling them to be self funding / supporting within three years of our assistance. As parents we all want to be able to support our children's future, with your help, we can enable them to have the secure future all children deserve. There are many ways to get involved with The Butterfly Foundation Nepal Childcare support program, from individual child sponsorship, School to School sponsorship, fundraising events or buying one of our calendars, which both show pictures of the children and some of the beautiful mountain scenes from the Himalayas. If you are planning a trip to Nepal, why not contact us before you come, whether you would like to volunteer some of your time, or come and stay with us at the Butterfly Lodge, your support will be directly helping the children. The profit from the Butterfly Lodge goes directly to the Foundation. All help is gratefully received, and you will find that you may come as a guest, but you will leave as a friend. We look forward to hearing from you.
